We used to a garden in the balcony of our appartment. There's a depression in the outer retaining wall which we filled with potting soil and planted bulbs and rhizomes (from the Chatuchuckt wet market in Bangkok!) in.
We'll be leaving next week so we dug up all our plants and planted them in the forest around the island. Apparently this has left some of our 'regular visitors' confused! I saw two mynahs this morning twitching around the garden looking for something. One of them bent over the retaining wall in the cutest way (perhaps he thought the plants had fallen into the balcony? :) Watching these birds is such fun; they twitch and jerk around so much every movement they make is like a little heart attack!
The background shows the canopy outside our balcony and the plants to the left are the last ones remaining in the garden. We'll plant those tomorrow.
